Ss are expected to learn to decline in a polite way
Help Ss to understand that love is contagious
Conduct a series of listening and speaking activities associated with the theme of this
unit

3. Follow and imitate the pronunciation of the native speakers during listening
Teaching method: task-based language teaching method, communicative approach,

1st period: Warming up; Listening (Listening practice)
2nd period: Speaking (Oral English practice)
3rd period: Listening and Speaking
Step 1 Warming up (27')
1. Lead-in activities:
A. Show some pictures about AIDS in order to let Ss review the lesson they have
learned before
B. Show Ss the video of the Special Report on Global AIDS and lead Ss to
listen to the passage
2. Finish the exercise on page 66
Step 2 Listening Task (75')
1) Listening skills:
v Ask Ss to read through the four options listed on their books
v Ask Ss try to find out the differences and similarities among those four options
v Ask Ss try to guess the question according the the four choices
v Ask Ss to listen to the dialogs carefully and complete the tasks after each section
2) Listening (pp. 67--pp. 70)
Task 1 Understanding ten short conversations
Task 2 Understanding a long conversation
Task 3 Understanding a passage
Task 4 Understanding a movie speech
For each part:
Ø Ask Ss to listen to the conversations and then choose the best answer to
complete each of the questions
Ø Check up the answers
Ø Explain the words, expressions and the culture related to the theme
Ø Listen again and get the Ss to pay attention to the key words
Ø Listen for the third time after checking up
Ø Role play and get familiar with the speech
Step 3 Speaking (20')
v Explain the useful expressions of offering help and good wishes
v Get the Ss to listen to the model dialogs without looking at the textbook
v Listen to the model dialogs once more and ask the Ss to imitate the dialog by looking at
the textbook
v Ask Ss to practice the expressions they have just learned before with their partners
v Based on the conversation activity, Ss are encouraged to pass help and good wishes
around.
v Help Ss to understand that love is contagious
v Select two or three groups to present their own conversation in front of class
v Ss are required to work in groups and discuss how they would react to a situation touch
by AIDS
Step 4 Listening and Speaking (25')
v Ask Ss to go through the five items and try to underline the key words which are easy
for them to get the point as soon as they hear the relevant sentences
v Listen to the story once and encourage the Ss to finish each statements
v Explain the instruction of this part and then divide the class into pairs to do Task 2
v Walk around the class and give help as needed
Step 5 Summary (2')
Summarize the main idea of this unit:
Ss are supposed to understand that only love and care could help AIDS patients to
fight against the disease. So, we must fight together.
