Teaching procedures:
1. Warming up (10 minutes)
Ss will be asked to listen to a broadcaster introduce the program “The Tragedy of War” and decide whether three statements followed are T or F based upon the information they hear.
2. Listening (60 minutes)
Listening skills:
1). Ask Ss to read through the four options listed on their books
2). Ask Ss to find out the differences and similarities among the four options and guess the question according to the four options.
3). Ask Ss to listen to the dialogs and complete the tasks of each section
Task 1: Understanding Short Conversations (20 minutes)
Task 2: Understanding a Long Conversation (10 minutes)
Task 3: Understanding a Passage (15 minutes)
Task 4: Understanding a Movie Speech (15 minutes)
3. Speaking (50 minutes)
Task 1: Practicing Conversational Skills (15 minutes)
1. Introduce useful patterns for talking about addition and subtraction, multiplication and division.
2. Listen to the model dialogs, imitate and practice the dialogs.
Task 2: Conversation Activity——Birthday Party Plan (15 minutes)
1. Work in pairs. Students will figure out a list of the things they need to throw a party.
2. Calculate and discuss the costs of the party, using expressions for addition and
subtraction, multiplication and division.
3. Fill the results of their discussion into a chart on book and have some students
to explain their plans to the class.
Task 3: Group Work——Just Wars (20 minutes)
1. Work in groups. Ss will make a list of five wars.
2. Ss will discuss each war in turn, trying to determine the benefits and costs, as
well as whether or not the war was just.
3. Ss will form an opinion on the meaning of a just war.
4. Listening and speaking (25 minutes)
Listening and Discussion
Ss are to hear a passage, answer and discuss the five questions given below.
5. Summary (5 minutes)
Summarize the main idea of this unit: expressions for talking about addition and subtraction, multiplication and division
6. Assignments
Supplementary listening and oral report.
